After many years working in the groundworks industry, I made the decision to start my own company — not because it was the easy route, but because it felt like the right one. When the time came to move on from the company I’d been with for years, a few of the lads I’d worked alongside wanted to come with me. That loyalty meant a lot, and it gave me the push to take the leap and build something of my own.
There has been alot of blood, sweat and tears put into VW and we’ve grown into a company that I’m truly proud of — one built on trust, quality workmanship, and genuine relationships.
What means the most to me is that we’ve managed to keep that same family feel, even as we’ve grown. Having my son, daughter and partner involved in the business makes it all the more special. Together, we’re continuing to build on the values that got us started: hard work, reliability, and doing every job to the best possible standard.
I’ve been working with my dad in groundworks for over ten years, and it’s something that’s always meant a lot to me. We’ve spent countless hours on sites together, learning from each other and building up a shared pride in doing things the right way — with hard work, honesty, and attention to detail.
A couple of years ago, Dad decided to start his own company, and it’s been great to see it grow from day one. Having been there through the early stages and seeing how far we’ve come gives me a real sense of pride and connection to what we do. It’s not just a business — it’s family, experience, and teamwork coming together.
I’m proud to still play my part and to see the same values that Dad has always stood for shaping the company today: quality work, reliability, and genuine care for every job we take on.
I started my journey in groundworks with Vincent & Myles over seven years ago, and from day one it was clear that we had the makings of a great team.
We shared a motivation to produce high-quality work with a level of professionalism that would never be compromised — something that still remains at the core of VW today.
When Vincent made the decision to strike out on his own, the motivation came naturally for me to make the leap with him and to work alongside the fantastic team we’ve built over the years, helping the company go from strength to strength.
I’m just as proud to be part of this team today as I was on that first day, continuing to uphold the same principles that have guided us from the beginning.

I’m Ali, Vince’s partner and the one who keeps the VW Paving office (and Vince)
organised. VW is very much a family business, and I’ve been behind the scenes since it all
began in 2023, doing the invoices, paying the wages, and generally doing whatever was needed to help get things off the ground.
In July 2024, I swapped my full-time job as a teaching assistant for full-time life in the VW office, because the business was growing fast… and let’s be honest, Vince needed someone who actually knows where all the paperwork is!
I love the variety that comes with working in a family-run company — one minute I’m
managing finances or putting together RAMS, the next I’m printing uniforms or sign writing vans and machinery. There’s never a dull moment, and that’s exactly how we like it.
When I’m not keeping VW running smoothly, you’ll find me spending time with my family
or enjoying anything Disney — yes, I’m unapologetically that person.
Working as a Marketing Manager for my dad’s groundworks company is something I’m genuinely proud of. It’s a family business built from the ground up, and I get to be right in the middle of the chaos (the good kind). No two days are ever the same, which is exactly how I like it.
And when I’m not doing all that? I’m either throwing weights around at CrossFit or at home parked in front of the log burner, watching a cheesy rom com.
